4 DAY KATA TJUTA, ULURU AND KINGS CANYON

Day 1: Uluru (Ayers Rock) – Kata Tjuta (the Olgas)
On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel (flights to arrive prior to 1.00 pm). This afternoon your guide will escort you on a 2-3 hour walk through the Kata Tjuta domes to the Valley of the Winds lookout. The walking path is rocky and requires a good level of fitness. After the walk take in a magnificent ‘outback’ sunset over Kata Tjuta. Refresh yourself with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine and nibbles. Travel to our exclusive barbecue venue to enjoy a traditional Australian barbecue dinner consisting of steak, sausages, kangaroo meat, salads and bread with complimentary Australian sparkling wine. There is time for stargazing too (weather permitting). Tea and coffee were provided. Enquire about vegetarian meals at the time of booking.

Day 2: Uluru (Ayers Rock)
This morning join the Uluru Sunrise, Climb and Base Tour (Y18) or for the non-climbers, the Uluru Sunrise and Guided Cultural Walk (Y41). On both tours, you will rise early this morning to travel to the Uluru sunrise viewing area. Watch the first rays of dawn set the Red Centre alight whilst enjoying a warming cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. Both tours also include a visit to Mutitjulu Waterhole and the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre. See page 16/17 for more details. This evening enjoy the sunset at Uluru with nibbles and a complimentary glass of wine.

Day 3: Kings Canyon
In the morning relax or join an optional tour. In the afternoon travel to Kings Canyon. There may be time to view the sunset on arrival. This evening you may wish to attend the award-winning ‘Sounds of Firelight’ dinner, exclusive to King Canyon Resort. See page 19 for details.

Day 4: Kings Canyon
In the cool of the morning join your Driver/Guide for a 3-hour guided climb to and around the rim of Kings Canyon. Marvel at the breathtaking views of Watarrka National Park and into the canyon itself. The rim walk is rocky and steep in places and is recommended for those with a good level of fitness. Alternatively, you may wish to explore the canyon floor, an easier shady walk that follows a trail between the two sheer walls of the canyon. Travel on to Alice Springs or back to Ayers Rock Resort this afternoon.

You’ll hear stories of its cultural significance and with Uluṟu as your backdrop, you’ll immerse yourself in the Anangu culture gathered around a campfire to learn ancient bush skills. Then join your Indigenous guide for an exclusive interpretive walk at the base of Uluru. This afternoon travel to Kata Tjuta. Enjoy a 2-3 hour walk through the domes to the Valley of the Winds.

Day 3: Uluru (Ayers Rock) – Kings Canyon – Uluru (Ayers Rock)
An early start from Ayers Rock Resort should reward you with a desert sunrise en route to Kings Canyon. In Watarrka National Park you can make the rocky climb to the rim of the canyon and be rewarded with breathtaking views of the park and into the canyon itself. The climb is recommended for those with a good level of fitness. Alternatively, you may wish to explore the boulder-strewn canyon floor, an easier shady walk. Return to Ayers Rock Resort.

Day 1: Uluru (Ayers Rock)
On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport, you will be transferred to the resort (flights to arrive prior to 2.00 pm). This afternoon travel to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) and continue to the base of Walpa Gorge. Spend time exploring the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations. Then travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area to witness the striking colour changes of Uluru at sunset while enjoying complimentary wine. You have the option of continuing on to our exclusive venue for an Aussie Barbecue Dinner with Uluru as your backdrop. Enjoy sparkling wine on arrival and dine on a meal of steak, lamb sausages, skewered chicken, garlic prawns, a selection of fresh salads and a tasty dessert.

Rise early to watch the first rays of the sun set the Red Centre and Uluru alight. Make your way to the viewing platform to see many kilometres into the distance, providing an ideal photo opportunity. After sunrise join your Driver Guide for a drive around the base of Uluru, then travel by coach to Mutitjulu Walk where you will be escorted to the Mutitjulu Waterhole. This waterhole was a key source of water for the local Aboriginal people and was used for many thousands of years. Here we also view Aboriginal rock art and learn about the Aboriginal and European history of the area. Your Driver Guide will indicate the native flora and fauna of this remarkable place. Visit the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to see locally-made arts and crafts. It houses an amazing collection of original ceramics, paintings and punu (woodwork) that provide an insight into the unique and spiritual culture of the Anangu people, the traditional custodians of Uluru. We’ll head to Kings Canyon stopping at Kings Creek Station which covers an area of 1,800 square km before spending the night at Kings Canyon Resort.

Day 3: Kings Canyon – Alice Springs
This morning join your guide for the rocky climb to the canyon rim for superb views of Watarrka National Park. (The climb may take up to 3 hours and is recommended only for those people with a good level of fitness. Supportive footwear is essential). Alternatively, you may wish to take the less strenuous walk to explore the boulder-strewn canyon floor. Later, travel on to Alice Springs.
