Northern Territory – Tourist Information Centre – Visitors Centre
Travel in the Northern Territory needs to be well planned and packages booked well in advance as accommodation can be limited and distances are vast. The Northern Territory is home to some of Australia’s most important tourist icons. Ayres Rock is among the most famous geographical features in the world. It is located in central Australia about 400 kilometers from Alice Springs. This region is about as remote as you can get, anywhere on the Planet. Ayres Rock resort, run by the Voyages company is located close by and you can fly in direct to the local airport from most Australian cities. Kakadu National Park is in the north of the state and can be accessed from Darwin. The park is famous for its magnificent sandstone escarpments, its aboriginal art, its waterfalls, crocodiles and barramundi fishing. There is excellent accommodation in the park for those who wish to stay. Just south of Kakadu is the town of Katherine and the majestic Katherine Gorge lies close by. Tours are available on a daily basis. Kings Canyon is another tourist icon to visit during your travel through the Northern Territory. It lies between Alice Springs and Ayres Rock. Once again there are tours available. Alice Springs itself is a tourist attraction in its own right. It lies amid the MacDonnell ranges and there are many interesting tourist attractions here that are worth a visit.
The Northern Territory is a great place to travel through by campervan or motorhome. There are a number of companies that cater for this activity. Britz / Maui, Apollo Motorhomes and Kea campers all have conveniently located depots. Organised tours have become very sophisticated in the Northern Territory and they travel to every nook and cranny of interest in the state. AAT Kings, and Adventure Tours are two that spring to mind however there are plenty of others. Once again Darwin is a great jumping off point and we can arrange Darwin accommodation for you.
