ITINERARY
DAY 1 :: ALICE SPRINGS – KATA TJUTA – ULURU
Pick up from overnight pretor dorm accommodation (included). Your adventure begins atop a camel! Our first stop is the Outback Camel Farm where you can choose to ride on one of these desert giants (at your own expense). From here it’s off to Uluru (Ayers Rock), and a bite to eat. Kata Tjuta will fascinate you, and you will discover some of the secrets of this ancient landform on the Valley of the Winds hike. You’ll be mesmerised as the desert sun sets over Uluru, and as the night grows darker, curl up in your swag (Aussie bedroll) under millions of stars. (LD)
DAY 2 :: ULURU TO KINGS CANYON
It’s an early start this morning, but you’ll be rewarded with a glorious Uluru sunrise. Stretch your legs with a walk around Uluru’s base, or climb to the top if you choose. You’ll deepen your understanding of the land and its stories at the Cultural Centre. After lunch, we travel to our permanent campsite at Kings Canyon. You’ll fall asleep contented with a delicious camp oven dinner filling your stomach. (BLD)
DAY 3:: KINGS CANYON TO ALICE SPRINGS
Get your hiking shoes on today as we head out to explore the impressive formations which make up Kings Canyon. You’ll be left breathless by the sheer beauty of the canyon as we trek through the Amphitheatre, the Lost City, the lush and ancient Garden of Eden, and the North and South Walls. Lunch is a welcome prospect before we make our way back to Alice Springs. (BL) Overnight dorm accommodation is included.
DAYS 4:: ALICE SPRINGS
Enjoy a free day to relax and explore Alice Springs (overnight dorm accommodation included; meals and activities at your own expense).
DAYS 5:: ALICE SPRINGS TO DEVILS MARBLES
Leaving Alice we pass by the Tropic of Capricorn and make our way to Karlu Karlu (Devil’s Marbles) where we have some time to explore the well-known marble-shaped granite boulders, a site sacred to its traditional owners. Continuing north we make a stop at Tennant Creek for a chance to purchase some dinner and stretch your legs before we make the overnight journey to Katherine
DAYS 6:: KATHERINE GORGE TO DARWIN
After a short early morning stop in Katherine where you can purchase breakfast, we arrive at Nitmiluk National Park home to stunning Katherine Gorge. Here you will have the chance to take an optional 2-hour cruise through the first 2 gorges (at your own expense and seasonal Apr-Nov). Early morning is the perfect time to experience and photograph the gorge in all its glory. If the cruise is not for you, our guide will lead a short return walk to Baruwei Lookout allowing you to get a nice postcard shot of the gorge and learn about this stunning area and its significance to the local Jawoyn Aboriginal people. Once we finish exploring the gorge, we drive the last leg into Darwin. Arriving around 1 pm, you will have the afternoon free to explore the Northern Territory’s capital city. |
DAY 7:: DARWIN TO MARY RIVER
A refreshing start to your day: the waterfalls of Litchfield National Park, followed by the spectacular Mary River Wetlands. Birds aren’t the only wildlife abundant around here; keep your eyes out for lurking crocodiles on our private river cruise! A secluded campsite at Point Stuart Wilderness Lodge is where we’ll stay tonight. (LD)
DAY 8:: MARY RIVER TO KAKADU
Discover ancient Aboriginal rock art at Ubirr, our first stop this morning. Clamber to the top of a rocky lookout for fabulous views over the Nardab floodplain. Next, it’s on to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), where a hike is rewarded with a reviving swim in the plunge pools. Tonight we stay at our permanent camp within Kakadu NP. (BLD)
DAY 9 – KAKADU TO DARWIN
Get ready for some 4WD action today on our way to Jim Jim Falls! Once we get there, we’ll hike to the base of the falls before continuing on to Twin Falls. Feel the beauty of the stunning gorge and powerful falls from the National Park-operated boat and boardwalk experience. The impressive scenery will continue to amaze you as we journey back to Darwin in the afternoon. (BL)
