The outback town of Katherine, about 320 kilometres south of Darwin in the Northern Territory and is the hub of the region and home to the majestic Katherine Gorge in the Nitmiluk National Park.
Travelling an hour south east of Katherine is the township of Mataranka and its famous thermal pool. Situated on the upper reaches of the Roper River, the crystal clear water of the thermal pool is surrounded by lush tropical forest and the Elsey National Park. The Daly River is nearby and an extremely popular fishing spot.
Victoria River, lies south-west of Katherine and is one of Australia’s last wild rivers. Well known as a premier fishing destination, the area is also home to the Gregory and Keep River national parks. Katherine accommodation can be used as a base to explore all of this magnificent region.
