You will travel from the lush Top End and through the Red Centre and heart of Australia to the coastal town of Adelaide. Break your journey and stay longer (own expense) in Darwin or Alice Springs between tours if you like.

ITINERARY [DAE12]
Day 1 – Darwin to Litchfield National Park
A refreshing start to your day checking out the waterfalls of Litchfield National Park. Enjoy lunch before heading to the spectacular Mary River Wetlands, where birds aren’t the only wildlife abundant; keep a watch for lurking crocodiles on our private river cruise! A secluded campsite in the Mary River Region is where you’ll stay tonight. (LD)
Day 2 – Mary River to Kakadu
Discover ancient Aboriginal rock art at Ubirr, your first stop this morning. Clamber to the top of a rocky lookout for fabulous views over the Nardab floodplain. Next, it’s on to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), where a hike is rewarded with a reviving swim in the plunge pools. Tonight you stay at the permanent camp within Kakadu NP. (BLD)
Day 3 – Kakadu to Darwin
Get ready for some 4WD action today on the way to Jim Jim Falls! Once you get there, you’ll hike to the base of the falls before continuing on to Twin Falls. Feel the beauty of the stunning gorge and powerful falls from the National Park-operated boat and boardwalk experience. Stop in at the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre this afternoon to learn about local Indigenous culture. The impressive scenery will continue to amaze you as you journey back to Darwin in the afternoon. (BL)
Day 4 – Darwin
Enjoy a free day to relax and explore Darwin (overnight dorm accommodation included, meals, and activities at your own expense).
Day 5 – Darwin to Katherine Gorge
Leaving Darwin, you stop for a break at Adelaide River on the way to Katherine. You spend the afternoon at the majestic Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk), which is part of the Nitmiluk National Park. Experience the striking beauty while canoeing or cruising (at own expense & seasonal) through the gorge itself. Want to see more? Jump onboard a helicopter flight (at own expense) which will take you high above the vast gorge system. Tonight you stay at the permanent camp near Katherine Gorge. (LD)
Day 6 – Alice Springs
This morning you check out the sacred site of the Devil’s Marbles, which balance precariously on their rocky perch. From here you stop in at Barrow Creek Pub, home to the historic Telegraph Station – catch a glimpse of what outback telecommunication used to be like! You cross over the Tropic of Capricorn, before arriving early evening into Alice Springs (BL). Overnight dorm accommodation is included.
Day 7 – Alice Springs to Kata Tjuta and Uluru
Kick off the next leg of your adventure on top of a camel! Our first stop this morning is an authentic outback camel farm where you can choose to ride atop one of these desert giants (at own expense). From here it is off to Uluru (Ayers Rock) for lunch. The 36 domes of Kata Tjuta will fascinate you, as you get up close to the majestic features of this ancient geological formation during a Valley of the Winds hike. You will be mesmerised as the desert sun sets over Uluru. Tonight you can sleep in a permanent tent or curl up in a swag (Aussie bedroll) and enjoy a night under the stars. (LD)
Day 8 – Uluru to Kings Canyon
An early start is rewarded with a glorious Uluru sunrise. While the morning’s fresh (and your legs are too!) enjoy an unguided walk around the base of Uluru. You will then deepen your understanding of the land and the Mala people as you embark on a cultural interpretive walk with an Aboriginal guide (and interpreter).* It is a unique opportunity to share experiences, connect with and learn about the oldest culture on earth. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to purchase Aboriginal arts and crafts at the Cultural Centre before we travel to our exclusive campsite within Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon) where we sleep for the night. Day 9 – Kings Canyon to Erldunda
Get your hiking shoes on today as we head out to explore the impressive formations and towering rock faces of Kings Canyon. You will be left breathless by the sheer size and beauty of the canyon as we trek through the Amphitheatre, discover the Lost City, the lush and ancient Garden of Eden and the North and South Walls. Enjoy a well deserved lunch before we make our way to Erldunda (overnight accommodation included, dinner at own expense). (BL)
Day 10 – Erldunda to Coober Pedy
We depart early this morning to make our way to Coober Pedy, crossing the Northern Territory/South Australian border. We take a break at the outback town of Marla, where we have a chance to purchase somelunch (own expense) and stretch our legs. The next stop is Coober Pedy, ‘the Opal Capital of the World’.Upon arrival your guide will give you a tour of this unique town, before visiting an underground mine andmuseum for a guided tour. You will also have a chance to purchase some of the opal jewellery producedfrom the mine. Tonight we stay overnight in a unique underground bunkhouse in Coober Pedy.
Day 11 – Coober Pedy to Adelaide
After breakfast, we continue the journey south along the Stuart Highway and stop at some of the salt lakes of Central Australia for an interesting photo opportunity. We pass by the ‘rocket-launching’ town of Woomera — part of a former military test site. Next we make our way to Port Augusta where we stop to enjoy lunch. We’re on the home stretch now! Leaving the vast open outback plains behind us, we make our way into South Australia’s capital city Adelaide, where your 12-day adventure finishes. (B)
