Early Morning Ballooning in Alice Springs

Launch into the Northern Territory outback at dawn aboard a hot air balloon, drifting silently across the red desert for 30 or 60 minutes. You'll rise from your hotel in the pre-dawn darkness, watch the balloon fill with warm air as light breaks across the horizon, then float above the landscape spotting wildlife from an angle few get to experience. Touch down for a spread of sparkling wine, juice, pastries and fresh fruit as your crew packs the balloon away. Four hours total, door-to-door.

What to expect

You'll be picked up well before sunrise and driven to the launch field. The balloon crew will unfurl and inflate the envelope whilst the sky warms from black to pink—worth watching. Once aloft, you'll experience near-total silence and a slow, gentle drift. The basket sits at chest height; climbing in unaided is a basic requirement. Flight time varies: you may get a single continuous flight or two back-to-back 30-minute hops depending on wind and operational limits. At landing, refreshments wait—wine, juice, fruit, cheese and pastries—while the crew begins packing. Helping fold the balloon is optional; if your body won't cooperate, simply step back and photograph.

Good to know

Book your first available day in town to reschedule if weather turns. The basket entrance is about 1.2 metres high with foot holes; you must climb it alone and stand for the duration. Notify operators in advance if pregnant (over 12 weeks banned), recovering from surgery or managing ongoing health conditions. Children 3–5 need prior approval. Pilot's call on flying conditions is final; unsuitable weather gets you a full refund or rebooking.
